AGM
NOTICE TO MEMBERS

NOVEMBER 2020
Dear Members, Partners and Friends

We hope you and your families are keeping safe and free from COVID-19 during such unprecedented times. We felt it would be timely to give you an update on planned work and also to inform you about matters relating to Governance of EMLLF.

Exciting News!
We are delighted to inform you that our funding bid to The National Lottery Community Fund was successful. This will provide significant funding to enable a one year programme of workshops which will commence once it is safe to do so! We will of course keep you fully informed of these and how you can book onto them. The three topics to be covered are:
(1) Meeting health and social care needs, promoting independence and the challenges of long term care;
(2) Addressing transport needs and provision – combatting loneliness and isolation;
(3) Employment in later life and retirement.

EngAgeNet
We have also been invited to hold events and facilitate “Colourful Conversations” with our partners “EngAgeNet.” These in-depth discussions, based on the highly successful “Mature Conversations” which were held in 2019 will again demonstrate that older people can be part of the solution to some of the major challenges facing society. We look forward to inviting you to participate when Coronavirus restrictions are eased. More news shortly.

EMLLF Governance
The EMLLF Executive Committee have recently met virtually to discuss current issues and have decided that, sadly, it will not be possible for EMLLF to hold an AGM this year because of the impacts of the coronavirus and current restrictions.

While there will be no AGM this year, we value members’ opinions and it is important to us that members still have an opportunity to ask questions of the Executive Committee. To enable this we are happy for you to email either the Secretariat or Chair (email addresses given below).
The Executive Committee have also subsequently decided to cancel this year’s elections onto the Executive Committee. Therefore, with no elections this year, the Executive Committee have agreed that all existing elected members and Executives of the Forum will serve one additional year. Membership renewals and Executive Committee elections will proceed as normal in 2021.
The Executive Committee continues to meet on ZOOM.

Given the events of recent months we hope these decisions feel sensible and pragmatic and we thank you for your continued support of the East Midlands Later Life Forum.

Stay safe, and we look welcome to welcoming you to our future events.

Best wishes
