EAST MIDLANDS LATER LIFE FORUM
MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

East Midlands Later Life Forum (EMLLF) is a strategic partnership, managed and led by a partnership of people in later life with others from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors across the East Midlands. It aims to enhance the quality of life for people in later within local communities, to improve the engagement and involvement of people in later life and increase economic well-being and opportunities for current and future people in later life within the East Midlands. EMLLF does not campaign or lobby, but seeks to inform and influence by working in partnership with stakeholders across all sectors.

One of the key priorities for the Forum is to ensure that the voice of older people is reflected both at Forum meetings and to help shape policy and developments on issues relating to people in later life.
Membership:
There are four categories of membership, Full Membership, Ex-Officio Membership; Associate Membership and Corresponding Membership. All four have an important role in establishing EMLLF as a diverse, inclusive and effective organisation.
Full Membership:
Membership with full voting rights is open to two representatives and one named substitute of organisations from public and private bodies, and the voluntary sector who uphold the ‘Objects’ of EMLLF with the agreement of their Line Manager or Chairperson, and whose application for membership is approved by the EMLLF Executive Committee.

Older people’s representatives:
Will be sought from each of the upper tier Local Authority areas in the East Midlands, namely Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Derby City, Nottingham City and Leicester City, where applicable. Applications will be invited from fully constituted Older Peoples organisations/groups who can demonstrate a significant reach of people in later life in the nine constituent areas of EMLLF listed above. Subject to the acceptance of the Older Peoples organisation as Full Members they will be entitled to nominate two named representatives and one named substitute representative.

Ex-Officio Member:
East Midlands Later Life Forum (EMLLF), in session, shall have the power to grant Ex-Officio Status to any person who has held not less than FIVE years continuous full membership of EMLLF. The member nominated for Ex-Officio status must also have served as:-
1. Chair, Vice Chair or Treasurer for a full term of ONE year – OR
2. An Executive member for a minimum period of THREE years.
EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS will be FULL members of EMLLF and as such are eligible for nomination to the Executive and election to the Offices of Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer.
Ex-Officio status is NOT dependent upon being a representative of any constituent member of EMLLF whose entitlement to representation will remain unchanged.
Retention of Ex-Officio status will depend upon attendance at NOT LESS THAN TWO THIRDS of the possible meetings, including committees and external representation, to which they are scheduled to attend in any twelve month period.
Full members can attend EMLLF meetings, receive EMLLF papers and invitations to conferences and events. Full members will be eligible for election onto the Executive Committee and to stand for the Officer posts of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Treasurer.

Associate Membership:

Associate (non-voting) membership is open to representatives of organisations/public bodies who share the same principles as EMLLF and wish to assist in achieving its objectives.

Associate Membership is open to one representative and one substitute from organisations within the Public, Private, Voluntary and Community Sectors with the agreement of their Line Manager or Chairperson.

Associate members will receive copies of East Midlands Later Life papers, may attend EMLLF meetings and be invited to conferences and events.

Associate Members are not eligible for nomination onto the Executive Committee or eligible to stand for the Officer posts of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson or Treasurer.

Membership is not transferable to anyone else.
Corresponding membership: EMLLF appreciates that there will be a significant number of smaller organisations or individuals that may be not be able to take advantage of Full or Associate Membership, but who can still make a valuable contribution to the work of the EMLLF. Corresponding Members (non-voting) are able to register to receive and exchange information with EMLLF, take part in surveys, submit opinions on relevant issues, and be invited to EMLLF AGM, Conferences, and workshops.
